To Umi (Your worth a million Bucks!!)

To Umi (Your worth a million Bucks!!)
I look at your face over and over again
I paint your smile, kiss your delicate hands,
and hear your gentle breath
Your beauty is like the night sky
and your strength is like the ocean tied
you truly are my precious diamond
and I raise my hands and thank Allah
for such a magnificent blessing
everyday that passes by, I silently whisper...
                       ... I love you . x

The Dangers of Dispute and Differing

The Dangers of Dispute and Differing

Narrated Ibn Mas’ud (ra): I heard a person reciting a (Quranic) Verse in a certain way, and I had heard the Prophet (saws) reciting the same Verse in a different way.

So I took him to the Prophet (saws) and informed him of that but I noticed the sign of disapproval on his face, and then he said, "Both of you are correct, so don’t differ, for the nations before you differed, so they were destroyed."

kind treatment and respect towards one’s mother

kind treatment and respect towards one’s mother

A man came to Ibn Abbas (ra) and said, “I asked for a women’s hand in marriage, and she refused me. Someone else asked for her hand and she accepted and married him. I felt jealous so I killed her. Will my repentance be accepted?”

Ibn Abbas (ra) asked, “Is your mother still alive?”

He said, “No.”

So Ibn Abbas (ra) told him, “Repent to Allah and do your best to draw close to Him.”

Then Ataa’ ibn Yasaar (ra) who over heard their conversation asked, “why did you ask him if his mother was still alive?”

Ibn Abbas (ra) said, “Because I know of no other deed that brings people closer to Allah than kind treatment and respect towards one’s mother.

[ Bukhari, Al-Adab al-Mufrad, 1/45 baab birr al-umm [kindness to the mother].]

The Best Deeds

The Best Deeds

Narrated Al-Walid bin ‘Aizar (raa): I heard Abi Amr ‘Ash-Shaibani (raa) saying, "The owner of this house." he pointed to ‘Abdullah’s house, said, "I asked the Prophet (saws) Which deed is loved most by Allah?"

He (saws) replied, "To offer prayers at their early (very first) stated times."

‘Abdullah (raa) asked, "What is the next (in goodness)?"

The Prophet (saws) said, "To be good and dutiful to one’s parents."

‘Abdullah (raa) asked, "What is the next (in goodness)?"

The Prophet (saws) said, To participate in Jihad for Allah’s Cause."

‘Abdullah (raa) added, "The Prophet (saws) narrated to me these three things, and if I had asked more, he would have told me more."

Visiting the sick – some etiquettes

Visiting the sick – some etiquettes
What Ruling on visiting the sick ?.
Praise be to Allaah.
Visiting the sick is called ‘iyaadah in Arabic (from a root word meaning return) because people come back time after time.
Ruling on visiting the sick
Some of the scholars are of the view that it is a confirmed Sunnah (Sunnah mu’akkadah). Shaykh al-Islam (Ibn Taymiyah) favoured the view that it is a communal obligation (fard kifaayah), as stated in al-Ikhtiyaaraat (p. 85) and this is the correct view. It is proven in al-Saheehaayn that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are five duties that the Muslim owes to his brother Muslim,” one of which is visiting the sick. According to another version: “The rights of one Muslim over another are…” Al-Bukhaari said: Chapter on the obligation of visiting the sick, and he narrated the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “Feed the hungry, visit the sick and free the captives.” End quote.

The Purpose for which We were Created

The Purpose for which We were Created

How is it possible that some people can call themselves Muslim yet they don’t pray?  Prayer is the second pillar in Islam after the declaration of faith.  Abu Bakr as-Siddiq declared war upon those "Muslims" who wouldn't pay the Zakat (the 3rd pillar) of Islam as many of them were considered apostates.  What about the 2nd pillar of Islam then?

If a Muslim is an alcoholic or a fornicator, scholars agree that these sins do not take that person outside the fold of Islam.  However, in regards to the prayer, the scholars disagree on this issue as the difference between a Muslim and kufr is the prayer.

The thirst of ibn al Mubarak...

The thirst of ibn al Mubarak...

When knowledge really benefits its seeker

Suwayd ibn Sa'id: 'I saw 'Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak in Makkah as he went to the (water of) zamzam and drank from it. Then he faced the Ka'bah and said,

'O Allah, Ibn al-Mawali narrated to us from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Jabir from the Prophet (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) that he said, 'The water of Zamzam is for whatever it's drank for [1]' and here I am drinking it to prevent the thirst of the Day of Judgement.' Then he drank it.
[Sifat al-Safwah, vol. 2; pg 325]

I think more than anything, what was impressive is that Ibn al-Mubarak the muhaddith, utilised his knowledge of the hadith as well as its isnad before acting upon it. He narrated the riwayah back to Allah and then asked Allah based on it. Subhanallah, this is when knowledge really benefits...

“O Messenger of Allah! Indeed, I love you…”

“O Messenger of Allah! Indeed, I love you…”

‘A’ishah reported that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said: “O Messenger of Allah! Indeed, I love you more than I love myself, and I love you more than I love my family, and I love you more than I love my children. When I am at home and I think of you, I am unable to contain myself until I can come to you and look at you. When I think about my death and your death, I know that when you enter Paradise, you will be raised to where the Prophets are. But, if I enter Paradise, I am afraid: will I be able to see you?”
So, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) did not answer him at all until Jibril revealed to him: {And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, then they will be in the company of those on whom Allah has bestowed His Grace - of the Prophets, the truthful, the martyrs and the righteous. And how excellent these companions are!”} [an-Nisa’; 69]
 [‘Silsilat al-Ahadith as-Sahihah’; #2933]

'O Abdullah, do not mention..."

'O Abdullah, do not mention..."
"I was with ibn al-Mubarak and Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman in Tarasus and suddenly people were called to arms (for war). When the two armies (the muslim and the roman) took their positions, a roman fighter came forward and asked for a one-to-one fight. A muslim fighter went forward to fight the roman but was killed. Another one volunteered but was killed as well. The roman fighter manged to kill six muslim fighters and was walking betwen the lines arrogantly asking for a fight and no one dared approach him. Then, ibn al-Mubarak looked at me and said 'If I am killed do so and so.' He, then, approached the roman fighter with his horse and killed him after an hours skirmish and asked for a fight. He manged to kill six roman fighters; and when he asked for a fight , no one dared come forward, they were all afraid. Ibn al-Mubarak disappeared for a while in the rows and then came to his position near me and said to me 'O Abdullah, do not mention what you have just seen to anyone as long as I am alive'".

Playing a recording of Qur’aan when putting someone on hold

Playing a recording of Qur’aan when putting someone on hold
Sometimes we have to put a caller on hold and ask him to wait for a little while because we are speaking to another, more important, caller, and that may take a long time. Or we are putting a caller through to the person he wants to speak to, so he has to wait for some time until that person answers. During the waiting period the caller can listen to some suitable recorded material. We wanted to fill the waiting period with religious material, whether it is recording of the Qur’aan or of hadeeth. What is the ruling on doing that? Please note that the conversations may be serious or lighthearted, depending on who is calling.

Praise be to Allaah.
This is not something that is prescribed or allowed in sharee’ah, and it may be a cause of the Qur’aan being mistreated and not respected properly. The same applies to the hadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).
The Standing Committee was asked a similar question and replied:
The Qur’aan is the word of Allaah, so it must be respected and protected against anything inappropriate such as mixing it with jokes before or after it or using it as a kind of entertainment or to fill spare time as in the case you described. Rather it should be recited primarily as an act of worship and in order to draw closer to Allaah, pondering its meanings and seeking to learn lessons from it, not just to relax and fill spare time. The same applies to the hadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him); it is not permissible to mix it with jokes and laughter, rather it must be protected from anything inappropriate and when one reads it, that should be with the intention of learning the rulings of sharee’ah and acting upon them.
Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 4/57-58.
And Allaah knows best.

British Muslim Convert Population Has Doubled in the Past Ten Years

British Muslim Convert Population Has Doubled in the Past Ten Years
The number of Britons choosing to become Muslims has nearly doubled in the past decade, according to one of the most comprehensive attempts to estimate how many people have embraced Islam.

Up to 100,000 converts to Islam are living in the UK,according to a report published today for Faith Matters organisation..

Using a number of sources, including a survey of more than 250 British mosques, census data from 2001 and conversion figures in Europe, the researchers from Swansea University estimate that there could be as many as 100,000 converts - of all ethnic backgrounds - in the UK, with white women leading the growing number of people embracing the Muslim faith.
